House of Hope is located in historic downtown Madison and offers food pantry
services for local families in need.
Ministry Needs:
Hospitality: This volunteer will greet guest families as they enter the pantry and log the families' names. They will invite families, in order, into the office and introduce them to the intake volunteers. Excellent people skills are helpful.
Shopping Guides: Volunteers will accompany the guest families during shopping by offering food options, based on family size. They will engage in conversations with the guests, inquiring if the family has other needs besides food (a guest specific intake sheet with conversation starters will be provided). Excellent people skills are helpful.
Stockers: Volunteers will continually restock the shelves during the public outreaches as needed. (Tuesday 5-8 pm/Friday 9-12 pm)
Helpers: Volunteers will assist the guests in choosing items in the frozen meat and produce sections of the pantry.
Cart Pushers: Volunteers will take the guest family's grocery cart to their vehicle. Volunteers must be able to lift a minimum of 10-15 lbs. to account for placing items in the vehicle.
Food Processing: Volunteers will assist the team leader in processing food donations. This will include inspecting each donated item, defacing bar codes if necessary and dating the item based on expiration date. Volunteers must be able to lift approximately 30 lbs.
Prayer Partner: Volunteers will meet privately with the guests, as requested, to pray with and for them prior to leaving the pantry.
